Justino Marufo Guerreiro, born in Faro, Portugal on December 12, 1931 passed away March 12, 2024 in Vancouver at the age of 92. He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Donatila, his loving daughter, Aderita, adored grandson, Justin and great granddaughter, Vienna. He died peacefully in his sleep, at home, with his family.

Justino came to Canada in 1955 as a young man of 23 years. He was among the first wave of Portuguese immigrants arriving in Vancouver, leaving all that was familiar to create a different future in a new world. His adventure was packed with difficulties and triumphs as he worked his way across Canada. He persevered, using his ingenuity, brains and brawn to prosper and make a good life for his beautiful bride and young daughter. Justino worked 34 years as a Longshore Crane Lift Operator, a job he loved until his retirement in 1996. In later years, he enjoyed spending summers in the Algarve with his wife. He was proud of his Portuguese heritage, culture, and music.

He loved going to his grandson’s soccer games and equally enjoyed welcoming friends to partake in his wife’s superb meals. He was the life of the party and often encouraged another glass of wine or cognac with a laugh saying, ‘la vai, la vai’ (go for it!). His humour and mischievousness added a liveliness to every get together.

Above all else Justino was a devoted family man. He will continue to be dearly loved.
