Tribute :My grandfather was one of the first pioneers to migrated to Canada back in the mid 1950s and eventually settle in Vancouver with his wife and daughter. He worked very hard in various jobs but was most proud of working for CN railways to eventually become a supervisor. Even though he enjoyed the years working in the railway of Northern BC, he still missed his family in Vancouver. He later resigned the job from the CN railway to work in Vancouver for a cement company in Richmond until a work injury. I remember Grandpa as an independent resilient person who enjoyed the company of family and friends. He was very generous to his grandchildren. He liked to sing Fados at parties and tell stories and jokes to entertain and make everyone happy. He loved to listen to accordion music and wished he knew how to play accordion himself. While he was still strong enough to travel, he spent half a year in Vancouver and the other half in Portugal with his wife. Some of his favorite hobbies was the farming of almonds, figs, and various other crops with his tractor around his home in Algarve, Portugal. In Vancouver, he also loved making traditional homemade wine with his family and friends. He enjoyed his collection of deer and moose antlers that he had saved from the years of working in northern BC and displayed them at his house. I feel deep sadness that grandfather has left us. I felt a part of me was taken away. however, he had lived his life fully until 96 and he is in peace with grandmother without pain and suffering. He will be deeply missed but we will treasure all the good memories in our hearts forever.
