Tribute :I wish to give my condolences to my uncle and cousins for the great loss of such a beautiful wife- mother- sister and aunt. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this very difficult time. The times that I spent with your mother/wife were very memorable and will never be forgotten. Aunt Laura was so full of life- laughter and love that she loved to share with everyone. My mother would always await her calls and they always spent so much time reminicing about old times- laughing and crying. Aunt Laura never forgot her brothers and sisters and always made the effort to call and say hi. She loved them all dearly. She was very proud of all her accomplishments and spoke very highly of all her children and all their successes. She will be missed in many ways but most off all she has left behind a lagacy that will never be forgotten and will live thru her children. May she rest in peace and always be remembered dearly in our hearts. Love always- Adelaide- Luis- Kristen- Justine- Meagan and Erynn Falardo

Your presence and love surrounded her and comforted and eased her passage. From our first meeting with Laura- her defining characteristic was always her love & pride in her family . Her face shone with happiness as described the latest deeds and accomplishments of all of you. Her Grandchildren brought her special joy...she delighted in their returned afection. Tribute :Several years ago- while sitting with Laura and listening to one- or many of her stories : ) we were discussing good family and good children- and caring about each other- and all that good stuff about love and life- when out of the blue I decided to thank her. She said your welcome. I told her that I was thanking her for having Carlos. She told me he was a good boy. I said all your kids are good and she agreed- very proud of her kids but taking no credit. I thank her again and again for giving me the chance to be with great family. I don't think she ever understood what I meant but I'm happy for taking the opportunity when I did. Thanks again Laura.

Tribute :Tia Laura- I will treasure the moments we spent together- with you recounting the funny stories of your upbringing in Porto Formoso. You made me laugh so hard sometimes. You yourself were always ready to laugh at the silly antics people- including yourself- would get up to. You always made the best of any situation. Thank you for your generous and loving spirit. Um beijo e um grande abra?o para sempre- Saozinha

Tribute :My Mom was dedicated to her family and her belief in the goodness of God in her life. She was always their to help and guide her children and gave us a solid loving and positive foundation to move ahead from. She had boundless energy and was able to handle the challenges of five very active children while completing her education in night school- working part time to put her children through private school education and pushing us all to accomplish whatever we choose to strive for in our lives. For me- she was instrumental in supporting me to excel in Sports and complete a University BBA Degree and be successful in business and in my family life. In the last few years of her life I missed speaking to her due to the debilitating effects of Alzheimers on her memory. I am missing her dearly now but know that she is in a better place now- and still caring for all of us and guiding us. I love you MOM ! Ernest Moniz

Tribute :My mother lived a fulfilling life and lived for her family. Not a day would go by that she would not call one of her kids to see how we were doing and what the grand kids were up to. We all have busy lives- but her intent was to encourage us to make the time to come together as a family. When the holiday dinners came around she would stay up late to make the traditional masa and other tasty deserts she knew we all loved. And her turkey stuffing was the best. Many a scuffle for the remaining stuffing. I have never been able to match it. Mom was such an outgoing- active person. I'm sure she could speed walk me any day(and in heels). She loved to laugh and have the grandchildren around anytime- and would never turn down an opportunity to be with the kids. She had so much patience. The past few years have been so difficult to see the Alzheimer's take her memories away from us- but her smile- always stayed the same- the smile I miss so much now. I feel her presence around me now- knowing she will always be there to talk to. I know she is in a happy place in the presence of God. I LOVE YOU MOM. Laurinha

Tribute :This is from the Eulogy I am hoping to deliver at Mom's services. My Mom joined my Father in Canada in 1957. She came to Vancouver without any of her other family and didn?t know the language or customs here. She left a small village and family of 4 sisters- 5 brothers and her parents to come here and start a new life. She was an unbelievably hard working Woman who possessed a boundless energy. In the early years she and my Father had several other young men from Portugal living with them- including some of my Father?s and her own brothers- who joined them for a while to start a life here in Canada. She ran the house for all these men- all while starting a family. She bore 4 children in this time- my brothers; Tony and Ernest- followed by the surprise! of the twins- Laura and Carlos- all within 4 years. 4 kids in less than 4 years?we all know there was not the luxury of disposable diapers back then! Not to mention no clothes drier. She had her hands more full than I can even imagine- yet- she not only coped- she made sure they all thrived and with a lot of scrimping and saving- they prospered. By the time I came around- 8 years after the twins- life was a bit different. They were in a new home- the older kids were in school and my Mom started to work outside the home. My Mom didn?t wait for things to happen- she made them happen. She did what she had to- to make it happen. She wanted a new house- or a rental property she investigated how and what to do and did them?starting with convincing my Dad it was a good idea. And she usually did convince him- because she was pretty much always right! Her wish of having us all educated in Catholic School was realized because she made it so- by doing her part to help with the extra costs. She started out caring for other children in our home- and then worked in a Restaurant before moving to retail sales at Field?s Stores in about 1975. There my Mother took a lot of pride in her department of Children?s Wear. She came to know a lot of people in the community and was known for her helpfulness- knowledge- and friendliness. She was very proud of her work and had an amazing work ethic. I rarely ever recall her missing a day of work until 1991 when she was struck by a car and was never able to return to the same level of activity. She had learned English well enough to manage on a day-to-day basis but she always wanted to learn more. While working full-time- running a household and raising 5 children- she began taking night school and working towards her Grade 12 diploma- which she did earn quite quickly- starting and finishing while I was still in Elementary school. My Mom walked. She walked everywhere and always in proper heeled pumps- and FAST. She had endless energy- worked all day and was often up cleaning in the middle of the night. I recall often being woken by the vacuum roaring into my room in the wee hours of the night. I don?t know how she did it. At the time- being a teenager- I wasn?t so impressed. Through all of this- what stands out to me about my mom?s values and beliefs was her love of FAMILY. My mom loved her family: her parents- her 9 other siblings and mostly her children- and later- her grandchildren. She wanted her children to be close; she loved us all and was so proud of all of us. She pushed us to be our best and she always- always stood by us. Even when we did something dumb. Her favourite times were to have everyone together on special occasions. She wanted us all to be each other?s best friends. She adored her grandchildren and if she had her way they?d never ever get scolded. My Mom had a strong faith. She prayed and was very devout and believed there was a better place and that God had a plan for us. My Mom loved to laugh and she loved people- especially children. She had a beautiful smile- a great laugh and an expressive face. Even in the last few years- when Alzheimer?s had stolen her memories- her eyes still lit up with love- when she saw my Dad- or one of her children or Grandchildren. I am so grateful that I had such a wonderful Mom in my life till now. I?m so happy she got to enjoy her Grandchildren. She taught me the meaning of unconditional Love and I hope I can pass that along to my own children. Love and miss you Mom- Grace- Mike- Gavin and Julia

Tribute :I would like to wish my deepest sympathy- thoughts and prayers to the Moniz family. I unfortunatly did not have the chance to get to know Valada (as i knew her) but had the honour of meeting her- and being in her presence only a few short times. I only wish i had more time to get to know her. The times i did speak to her- she always had a bright smile that could light up the darkness of the night. Even though i couldnt understand half of what she was saying (because of her rich accent) i could tell that she was a very sweet- loving and caring person who loved her family with all her heart. Her spirit will live on for eternity in the hearts and souls of her friends and family. We will miss you dearly. Brandon.

Tribute :My mom-she was always there for me and my family.I could always count on her for her support. Her smile was all I needed to cheer me up when I was feeling down. That phone call during the week was always looked forward to- and now more than ever missed. My mom cherished her family and sacrificed to give us all the best-taking night school to finish her education while working part time and raising three boys and two girls. She was the glue that kept us together and always went out of her way to get us together when we we apart for too long-busy with our own day to day lives. Mom and my Dad worked very hard -and they instilled that work ethic in me.I know that she gave me the tools to build a better life for me and my family- and I will always be gratefull for that.I will miss you very very much.
