Maria Estrela de Melo born on January 29, 1926 in Agua d’Alto, Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel, Acores (Portugal)
passed away at the age of 93 on Monday, February 4, 2019 surrounded by her loving sons and daughters.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Manuel Fernandes de Melo (2006), her son Humberto de Melo (2011),
granddaughter Julie de Melo McKay (2007), her parents Manuel Pacheco and Maria do Rosario Correira, brother-in-laws Amilcar de Melo,
Manuel Simas and Manuel Raposo Maria will be lovingly remembered by her sons Fernando, Duarte and daughters Sally, Sidalia and Elizabeth;
daughter-in-law Maria, son-in-law Brad, Terry, her sister Deodata Camara and brother-in-law Jose Da Camara as well as her sister-in-laws Enorina Simas,
Aurelia Raposo and Analia de Melo. Maria leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren whom she adored very much along with
many long time friends from Our Lady of Fatima Portuguese Parish Church and the Portuguese Choir of which she dearly enjoyed being a part of.
Maria also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews in Montreal, Toronto, New Bedford, Florida and Vancouver. Maria was a sociable & kind lady,
well liked & was so giving of herself. Alongside her late husband, Maria loved singing & performing at various Portuguese community events while
volunteering so much of her time to help others. She was very proud & very much enjoyed taking part in the Portuguese Choir for over 15 years.
Maria will be remembered by her many cherished “choir” friends, some who have offered their time to lend their voices throughout the memorial
service in her honour. Maria loved spending time with her family of which she cared for very much. She was an active member of the Portuguese
community where she developed lifelong friends who’ve also become a part of her extended family.She was one of a kind & will be truly missed!
Prayers will be said 7:00p.m. Monday February 11, 2019 at Corpus Christi Church located at 6350 Nanaimo St., Vancouver, BC Where
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am Tuesday February 12, 2019. Entombment at Ocean View burial Park, South Mausoleum. Rev. Antonio Tapparello C.S. Celebrant.

Tribute :Querida Mae. I will never forget you for the rest of my life. My life will be empty as you are and will forever be my best friend, my rock my love of my life my angel. Until we meet up in heaven and I ask that you keep a nice close cloud for me to lay with you and with dad and my brother Humberto. God is next to you and you will be guided by him and will never ever fall again.
