It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of João Pavao on August 8, 2015 at the age of 86. João was born on June 6, 1929 in Candelária, São Miguel, Azores. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maria Dos Anjos, sons Manuel (Vicki), and João (Marietta), daughter Maria (Mark), his grandchildren: John (Claudia), Brian, Kimberly, Kiana, and Michael, his great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Christopher, his brothers José (Conceicão) and Vitorino (Luisa) and his sister-in law Teresa and many nephews, nieces and godchildren. João is predeceased by his brother Manuel, his sister Dos Anjos and his twin brother who died in infancy. João loved being surrounded by his family and friends, fishing at Spanish Banks and keeping up with local, provincial and federal politics and the courtrooms of Judge Judy and Judge Joe Brown. He was always willing to accompany out-of-town guests on trips to the local casinos to try their luck. He also enjoyed the many family trips to Hawaii, California, Oregon, Massachusetts, Vegas, Toronto and Portugal. He will fondly be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, Avô and vis-Avô. He will always be in our hearts and forever be missed. Many thanks to the healthcare team at VGH and the Vancouver Hospice Society for their care and compassion. Prayers will be said at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13th at Our Lady of Fatima Parish 1423 East 13th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Leonardo Rocha celebrant. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Vancouver Hospice Society.
