It is with great sadness that we announce the death of
Almyra Marie Hagemoen (neeLongworth). Myra was
born in Crystal Springs, Saskatchewan, the ninth of ten
children born to Pat and Eva Longworth. Myra moved to
Vancouver in 1955, where she met the love of her life, Eric,
while working at Woodward’s Department Store. Myra and
Eric made their home in North Vancouver and had two sons,
Mark and Daniel. Myra had a great passion for music and taught
piano for over 40 years in North Vancouver. She expressed this
passion throughout her life, playing the piano and organ and
singing at many church and community organizations. She
especially loved to contribute to the music ministry at Holy
Trinity and St. Stephen’s Parishes. She also enjoyed the
many summers as part of the life and community at Eagle
Bay on Shuswap Lake. Myra is survived by her husband
of 56 years Eric, sons Mark and Daniel (Lorie), brother Ron,
and grandchildren Alana, Matthew, and Jacob. The family
wishes to express their gratitude to the team at Nicola Lodge
Care Facility, Port Coquitlam, for their kindness and care of
Myra during the last months of her life. Services to be held at
St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Coquitlam. Prayers will be Monday,
July 10 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 11 at 11a.m.
May she rest in the Peace
of Light of Christ.

Tribute :I was reminded today of my time learning piano and thinking fondly of my time as a young student of Mrs. Hagemoen. I remember coming to class one day having learned a new music piece from a piano book I had at home, and revealing what I had been practicing in secret to Mrs. Hagemoen. She was so thrilled to hear me play that she gave me creative freedom to select my own pieces from then on. Just having one person believe in me was enough to motivate me to continue playing for years after. Another funny memory I have is coming to class and she would always have her students wash their hands before playing the piano. I remember washing my hands with the bar soap in the bathroom (which was quite dirty at the time) and asking her why she doesn’t use liquid hand soap. I was a kid at the time and remarked something along the lines of “I’m just washing my hands with everyone else’s germs on the bar of soap”. Not having any scientific proof for my outlandish comment of course. I’ll never forget the following week seeing she had replaced the bar of soap with liquid hand soap haha! I will miss Mrs. Hagemoen deeply and always cherish the time that I had with her. I only wish I could have spoken to her one last time to recount my memories with her, and show her what I have learned since she saw me as a child. Rest in peace ❤️

Kristy
