Margaret Elizabeth Ashe (née Campbell) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 11, 2026, at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, British Columbia, at the age of 81.

Margaret, known to everyone as Margie, was born on August 8, 1944, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She married Thomas Ashe on March 15, 1967, and the very same day they set off together for Canada to see what life might hold, planning to try it for a while, never imagining it would become a lifetime.

They first lived in Vancouver’s West End, where Margie worked at the Hotel Vancouver, then in North Vancouver, where they had their girls, before settling in Port Coquitlam. There they raised their family, made good friends and brought a bit of Belfast with them wherever they went.

Margie is survived by her devoted husband of almost 60 years, Thomas, her best dance partner from the day they left home together, who never left her side, and by her three loving daughters, Siobhan Ashe (Raymond Havelock), Jeanette Ashe (Kennedy Stewart), and Mairead Ashe (Brad Slyman), who meant everything to her and of whom she was deeply proud. She was a loving granny to Kyle Vossenaar (ShunWen Cheng) and Shane Havelock (Heidi Robinson), and a very proud great-granny to Mia.

She is also survived by her loving brother John (Sean) Campbell (Sheila Campbell); he and the Campbell clan will miss her dearly. She was predeceased by her father Daniel Campbell, her mum Maggie Campbell, and her brother Stephen (Stevie) Campbell, all of whom she spoke of often throughout her life.

Margie had a sharp mind and a quick wit. She loved books more than anything and would often read a novel a day, always with another waiting nearby. She enjoyed spy stories, thrillers, old movies, and never missed a chance for a good chat. To her family, she was the person who always gave the best advice. Who is going to tell us like it is now?

She worked alongside her husband Thomas in their family meat shop and later worked in Dietary Services at Royal Columbian Hospital. She was independent and never afraid to speak her mind.

Margie often spoke with great affection about the good friends she had lost over the years and whom she missed dearly. We like to think they are together again now, enjoying a good laugh and plenty of craic.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Royal Columbian Hospital and Eagle Ridge Hospital for the care and kindness they showed in looking after our mum.

Above all, she was a loving wife, the best mum, and the heart of our family. We will miss her every day. “We love you, Mum.” … “I love you more.”
