Br. Gerard “Jerry” Harasym, S.D.B.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Br. Jerry Harasym on Aug.25th 2016 at Surrey Memorial Hospital at the age of 79. He was battling with cancer for about 2 years. Born in Winnipeg Nov. 12th, 1936. He grew up in East Kildonan and attended St. Alphonsus Catholic school which started him on his journey serving the church. Jerry carried many talents including teaching, figure skating, singing, dancing, not to mention his amazing artistic ability and lifelong devotion to the church and community. Throughout the years of his travels he brought sunshine to all he met and will always be remembered. He was predeceased by mother Viola and father John Harasym, sister Rosemary Harper; is survived by nieces Leah (Mar, Blayse, Max) Harper, Angela Harper, great niece Malikiya Harper, and great nephews Latiyfe, Kiseriyan, and Jahziyon Harper, as well as numerous extended family with the Salesians of Don Bosco and numerous friends throughout Canada and USA. He was a professed Salesian Brother for 56 years. He has been assigned at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish, Surrey, BC since September 5th 2002.

God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be.

He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’

He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend.

He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.

He tried so hard to stay with us but his fight was not in vain,

God took him to his loving home and freed him from the pain.

A special thank you to those who helped him in his journey home.
