João (John) Luis Dos Santos Castro passed away on November 15th, 2021 at the age of 72 after a sharp decline to his health. He was surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 3rd, 1949, child to Luis Neto Nunes De Castro and Maria Dos Santos. Born in Vale De Ilhavo, Portugal, he grew up with 3 brothers and a large extended family. As a young boy growing up in Portugal, he was known for being full of life and outgoing.
He is survived by his four children: Julia (Shane) MacDonald, João (Charisse) Castro, Christina (Paul) Buholzer and Joaquim (Maigyn) Castro and his 11 grandchildren who called him Avô, Vovô or Grandpa Pai.
He was a Paratrooper with the Portuguese army for a few years before he immigrated to Vancouver, Canada where he raised his family. He was a carpenter by trade and loved working with his hands and working with wood. We have fond memories of building and playing in the garage with him as he worked. Working as a finishing carpenter he retired and enjoyed helping people when he could.
He loved flowers and was always sure to share his thoughtful gifts of flowers with us girls, making sure to bring them every time we saw him. He loved travelling back home to Portugal whenever he could to visit family and friends. He even got out of his comfort zone and ventured on an Alaskan trip with friends in 2016. He enjoyed the outdoors and had an adventurous spirit. He always had a great sense of humor.
Your light shines brightly in our hearts, we miss you and will love you always deeply and forever. May you rest in eternal peace. – Son, Pai, Avô, Vovô, Brother (In Law), Uncle, Companion and Friend.
