It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing our husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Predeceased by his Mother Margarida Teixeira, Father Francisco Simoes Goncalves, Brother Claudino Neto, Sister Vitoria Gomes Simoes, Sister Susana Antonio and …
Manuel will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 56 years Alice, son Jose Manuel Goncalves (Linda), daughter Annabella Donatiello (Vito), and grandchildren Vianna and Joseph, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Born and raised in Alhos Vedros, Portugal, Manuel learned the stone mason trade, his love of fado music, nature, and the arts. In 1964, he immigrated to Canada with his wife and infant son to build a new life. Daughter Annabella was born 6 years later. Manuel ran a successful brick and masonry business in Vancouver for over 20 year before retiring.
Later in life, Manuel enjoyed tending his yard and gardens, and was constantly working to better his environment. He found time each day to sit and enjoy some Portuguese music, have a light lunch or BBQ, and interact with birds and neighborhood pets. The crows still come calling each day, hoping for handouts, and the pets seem lost without him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, May 25th at the Our Lady of Fatima Portuguese Parish 1423 E 13th Ave, Vancouver. Private cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC.

Tribute :Recently heard of the lose of your father. My condolences to the family. Your father was a good man. Always in a good mood and a smile on his face. Also, the Portuguese Club of Vancouver has made a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in memory of your father. He was a long time member and would come around every once in a while to say hi. God bless all of you.
