“ McGovern – Margaret Cecilia With sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Cecilia McGovern (nee Coghlan) on November 8, 2009. She carried on resiliently in the face of illness; remaining active with bowling, volunteering at Womens Hospital, walking her dog and with entertaining and caring for her family and friends. She will be sorely missed by her daughters Catherine McGovern and Jane McGovern, her grandson Jason McGovern, her son-in-law Abdou Khadre Mbodj, her sister Joan Gilles and family, her brother-in-law Dick Crump and family, and by her many friends. Margaret was born October 13th, 1928 in rural Saskatchewan where she braved real cold walking to convent school! After graduating, she and her mother moved to Vancouver where she met her beloved late husband and best friend John James McGovern. Together they enjoyed many happy family moments including with the Jones family at their summer camp. Margaret was a knowledgeable sports fan who shared her enthusiasm with her grandson Jason. Having previously worked at Eatons (in the era of white-gloved salesgirls) she went on to become customer service supervisor at CIBC Visa (in the early days of computerized call-centres). Margaret was conscientious, gracious and true to her Prairie roots. She was sustained by her faith and by her love for her family. The McGovern and Crump families invite you to Prayers at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1345 West 73rd Avenue, Vancouver, this Friday, November 13th at noon. Please no flowers. Donations in her name may be made to the Salvation Army.
