Stefano Pasquale Tognon was born in Treviso, Italy on March 26th, 1921, and passed away peacefully in White Rock, BC on January 18th, 2022, in his 100th year. He is survived by his stepdaughters, Rosa Basso (Arnaldo) and Gabriella Calendino (Raffaele), his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren, as well as nieces, great nieces and nephews in Italy. He is predeceased by all his siblings, his dedicated wife of over fifty years, Lucia Tognon, his grandson Rinaldo Calendino, and his stepson, Ronald Balducci whom he raised as his own. Stefano was a decorated World War II soldier. He lived briefly in Belgium to work in the coal mines and immigrated to Canada in search of opportunity. In 1966, he married Lucia and they moved to Kemano, BC for a short while before returning to Prince Rupert, BC where they lived for many years. They enjoyed time with close friends and family at their cabin and enjoyed going to dances and playing cards. In 1989, after retirement, Stefano and Lucia moved to Cloverdale to be closer to their immediate family. Stefano and Lucia enjoyed a simple, honest life. They enjoyed traveling and went on many road trips. When they were unable to live independently, they moved to Crescent Gardens where they spent their final years. Stefano took life as it came and was happy with what he had. He was still lucid and recognized his family until very recently. He did not complain but kept moving forward and made the best of his circumstances. We are grateful for the many years we shared. A private funeral will be held at Gardens of Gethsemani on January 27th, 2022, for family only. In lieu of flowers, please donate to BC Children’s Hospital.
