With great sadness we announce the passing of our
beloved Zulmira de Sousa. After a long, hard fought
battle with cancer she peacefully passed at Laurel
Place Hospice surrounded by her family. Zulmira
lived her life with a strong faith, generosity, honesty
and a deep love for her family and many friends. She
is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Leonel
de Sousa, her daughter Mary (John), her grandchildren;
Leah, Julie (Nate), Reid, great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tucker,
Aeryal and Christian. Zulmira was born in Pico, Azores.
In 1957 she and her husband moved to Vancouver, B.C.
Then in 1969 they bought an orchard in Osoyoos, B.C.
where they spent the next 28 years working together
growing and harvesting the fruits of their labour.
In 1997 they retired to South Surrey to be closer to their
daughter and family. Zulmira loved being Avó to her
grandchildren. She was always busy crocheting, cooking,
growing beautiful flowers and keeping in touch with her
friends and family. She will be greatly missed but will live
on forever in our hearts. Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 1:30pm Monday June 17, 2019 at Good Shepherd
Church 2250 – 150th St., Surrey. Entombment to follow
at Gardens of Gethsemani Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donation
can be made to the B.C. Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
